Iron and manganese cause stains and tastes in water. One way to remove both of these elements from water is using oxidizing filters. The filter usually contains manganese treated greensand media. This filter media is then treated with potassium permanganate to form a coating that oxidizes the dissolved iron and manganese and then filters them out of the water. This treatment works well because it combines oxidation and filtration. The removal systems are customized using either vertical or multiple cell horizontal vessels for flows from 50-5000GPM.
