When there is an excess in digester gas, it needs to be flared off. There are two types of flares, an open flame on high tower and an enclosed flame on the ground. Having a high open flame helps with odors given off from the gases and helps avoid possibly dangerous situations. The enclosed flame on ground is ideal for areas where flare stack emissions are regulated or where it is desired to hide the flame.
