Thickeners

Thickeners produce concentrated sludge underflow and reduce volume of sludge for further pumping and processing. Circular tanks are used along with slowly moving vertical paddles. The sludge is pumped in from the settling tank with a low overflow rate. This causes the excess water to overflow and the sludge solids concentrate in the bottom. The sludge solids are removed from the bottom at a continuous low rate.
